The Langtang, Gosaikunda and Helambu treks
The three treks originate from the capital Kathmandu and the trail head are situated an hour away from the city. Helambu circuit takes us out of the city and climbs through thick forests rapidly to the alpine regions of the trek at 3500 meters at 'Thadepati'. Technically not difficult this trek is through lush forests, rural villages and into the 'Hyolmo' region. This region is home to the 'Hyolmo' people with beautiful monasteries and lazy Yaks.
The Gosaikunda trek follows the same route of the Helambu trek however we leave the Helambu trail at Thadepati and cross the 'Laurey bina la' pass at 4380 meters. Here we drop down to the enchanting gosaikunda glacial lakes which is surrounded by numerous icy glacial lakes. This holy location for Hindus and Buddhists is a place of pilgrimage and meditation and we spend our day surrounded by snow peaks and hermits. The trail then drops down into the warm temperate forests of Dunche from where we drive back to Kathmandu.
The Langtang trek is a valley trek that starts and ends with Dunche or can be linked with the Gosaikunda trek. We start from Dunche and climb into the alpine valley of Langtang surrounded by snow caps and immerse ourselves into high mountain life sharing the trail with mountain goats, yaks and monasteries.
These treks give us a glimpse of mountain life and the change of culture between the lower mountains and high mountains. We get to experience different cultures and topography not having to travel very far from Kathmandu and is recommended for those who are short on time.
